We gave it a B+

With colorful splashes of heartily strummed acoustic guitars and harmony vocals, Dear 23 sounds like nothing so much as the early Hollies. Fortunately, The Posies, a Seattle power-pop quartet, avoids self- conscious revivalism with strong, intelligent songwriting and a solidly modern rock beat. Several songs do collapse into illusory echoes of something familiar, but the others — especially ”My Big Mouth” and the epic ”Flood of Sunshine,” which winds in a long, raging guitar solo — are more than the sum of their historical precedents.
