The Dirt Band have enjoyed a big resurgence of popularity in recent years, with the multi-Grammy- winning success of their genre-spanning Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Volume Two, and its intelligent follow-up, The Rest of the Dream. Now comes Live Two Five, a live album with a clever title to reflect the group’s 25th anniversary. The material covers almost all of the band’s career, from the organic folk-pop hits of ”Mr. Bojangles” and ”Make a Little Magic,” to the countrier fare of ”Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper’s Dream).” But at 16 tunes, the album’s a mite long, especially since some songs (like the harmonica solo ”El Harpo”) are too odd or mundane. And, ironically enough, the sound quality of the live performance lacks immediacy. All of which make this sampler one of the Dirt Band’s least involving releases. C
