You’d think that L.A. gangsta rap would get tiresome after N.W.A, Ice Cube, Ice-T, DJ Quik, and their imitators. Wrong. Above the Law generally live up to the standard they set a year ago with their megahit debut LP, produced by rap powerhouse Dr. Dre of N.W.A. Now, without the Doctor, they give us an EP, Vocally Pimpin’, with equally danceable tracks like ”Wicked,” which serves up rage against George Bush’s civil rights bill veto and against the black middle-class, accused here of forgetting their roots. Elsewhere, though, the group gets lazy, falling into recitations of wannabe pimp tales. B-
