This saccharine family film is more of a Rescue 911 episode than a modern Old Yeller. Lonely farm girl Charley (Raeanin Simpson) and her loyal mutt, Fuzz (Hoover), are best friends, but Charley wants some two-legged pals, too. Her efforts at friendship are rebuffed by well-to-do classmates (they invite her to a tea party so she can play their servant), but in a crisis worthy of William Shatner, the quick-thinking kid and her courageous canine save a neighbor’s life and, yep, show the class-conscious town that brotherly love is the most valuable asset of all. Excruciatingly slow and awkwardly edited, Little Heroes tries to teach children a big lesson, but viewers of all ages will probably want more Fuzz and less moralizing. C-
