Models with firearms return to TV -- Farrah Fawcett and Cybill Shepherd return as investigators on two new TV-movies

What can you say about two stunning blond models-turned-actresses? That the characters they play are street smart, investigate crime, and are no strangers to firearms? That their cases inevitably involve handsome strangers, treachery, murder suspects, and lust? That Farrah Fawcett on the first season of Charlie’s Angels (1976) and Cybill Shepherd on Moonlighting (1985-1989) did it all so well the last time out they’ll be doing it again on ABC? Correct on all counts. This time the golden-maned women appear in TV-movie form — Shepherd as a private investigator in Stormy Weathers and Fawcett as a defense lawyer in Criminal Behavior.

Shepherd stars as Samantha ”Sam” Weathers; Fawcett is Jessie Lee Stubbs. (Love those mannish monikers!) And both actresses hope the roles will put their careers back on track: Fawcett is rebounding from Good Sports, last year’s unsuccessful CBS sitcom in which she costarred with her honey, Ryan O’Neal; Shepherd’s last major film role, Texasville, the 1990 sequel to 1971’s The Last Picture Show, was nowheresville at the box office. If her new TV movie strikes Nielsen gold, ABC spokesperson Jim Brochu says, ”Cybill could par-lay her part into a series of movies.” He adds that there are no future plans for Farrah but ”nothing’s written in stone.” Now if only ABC could find some way to revive David Doyle as John Bosley and Allyce Beasley as Agnes Dipesto…
