Successful hip-hop artists often return to the ‘hood with their eyes open for new talent.
That’s not the case with the Penthouse Players Clique’s Paid the Cost, which unfortunately tries to match the pimp-daddy swagger of its celebrity producers — L.A. rappers Eazy-E (of N.W.A fame) and D.J. Quik — and ends up sounding more eager than convincing. In fact, D.J. Quik’s exciting burst of vocal energy on the Clique’s album only whets your appetite for his next record. C
