From chaps to hats, from boots to beer, this compendium of all things Western tells you everything you always wanted to know about life on the frontier. The 19th-century black-and-white shots of real-life riflemen are neat, but the true fun here is in the color pictures of Pendleton blankets, Native American rugs, string ties, and other regional consumables. The organization of Christine Mather and Jack Parsons’ True West: Arts, Traditions, and Celebrations is a bit messy (it resembles The Whole Earth Catalog as designed by Ralph Lauren), but cowboy junkies will eat it up.
