Ted & Venus

Genre: Comedy, Drama; Starring: Bud Cort, Kim Adams; Status: In Season; MPAA Rating: In Season

A kind of demented ”10,” Cort’s vanity production (he directs, writes, and stars) tells of an unbalanced poet in the Venice, Calif., of 1974 who relentlessly pursues his dream woman (Adams), with tragic results. Ted & Venus, which Cort dedicates to departed colleagues Hal Ashby, Colin Higgins, and Ruth Gordon of Harold and Maude, hardly has that movie’s dark charm, and Cort’s misfit is much more creepy than he is misunderstood. The viewer easily sides with the poor, harassed woman, and the final effect is just plain weirdness. D-
