Arista is finishing up No Alternative, an album of previously unreleased songs from 18 bands (including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soul Asylum, and Smashing Pumpkins), which will benefit AIDS-care facilities worldwide. *Former Eagle Don Henley is organizing an album for Giant Records of Eagles covers by such country artists as Clint Black (”Desperado”), Brooks & Dunn (”Best of My Love”), and Trisha Yearwood (”New Kid in Town”). Proceeds will go to Henley’s conservationist Walden Woods project. *No motivation problems here: Tropicana Twister spokesperson Reba McEntire just started a national tour and an autobiography for Bantam, recently finished a film with Burt Reynolds (she plays his love interest), and will begin shooting Rob Reiner’s comedy North in July. *R.E.M. plays on one track of Deborah (don’t call her Debbie) Harry’s first album in four years, Debravation (August).*Deep Purple will defend the ”World’s Loudest Band” title when they begin their world tour July 27 in New York.
