WORD IS THE WORD

It takes good buzz to save a modest opening: Both second-place Undercover Blues and third-ranked True Romance will need a boost from enthusiastic audiences to survive. Moviegoers didn’t even sample The Real McCoy or Money for Nothing, and tepid reaction sent both Fortress and Calendar Girl into second-week tailspins. Meanwhile, two Asian-themed movies, The Joy Luck Club and The Wedding Banquet, are soaring on positive word of mouth in limited release. The bigger picture: The Fugitive will soon overtake The Firm as 1993’s No. 2 box office draw, after Jurassic Park. And last week In the Line of Fire became the sixth movie of 1993 to pass the $100 million mark. Weekend Gross Weeks in Gross Top 20 to Date Release
