Genre: Fiction, Mystery and Thriller; Author: Rene Belletto

Machine stars an enterprising doctor who develops a computer that allows people to trade personalities. When he uses it to climb inside the head of a violent mental patient, all hell breaks loose, and Rene Belletto has fun with the implications of a technology that renders the human body a mere transport module for the mind. By mid-book, however, Belletto sacrifices subtlety for splatter, and his loving descriptions of pretty women being raped and stabbed make you wonder about the ghost in his machine. For sheer psychodrama, Machine delivers on every count, but don’t read it in search of sexy technology—the drably named ”psycho-computer” has all the futuristic allure of an electric typewriter.
