Too High to Die

Genre: Rock; Producer (group): London, PLG; Status: In Season

These Arizonans were reviving Deadhead-rock years before MTV made it a marketable commodity, but the band has yet to record a song as exciting as Blind Melon’s ”No Rain” or the Spin Doctors’ ”Two Princes.” The Puppets’ eighth album, a hodgepodge of gunky feedback, dusky harmonies, and dorky hippie babbling, has its groovy moments. But mostly, it’s a drag.
