We gave it a C+

After showing his spiritual passion with Earth, Wind and Fire in the ’70s and his religious fervor with gospel in the ’80s, the king of falsettos offers up a dozen secular love songs that could be dubbed ”Prince Lite” on his self-titled album, Philip Bailey. Among the too-smooth ballads and overly synthesized Jodeci-style doo-wop, just the funky ”Live It Up” and danceable ”I Won’t Open My Arms” (sung with P.M. Dawn’s Prince Be) jump out. If only the rest were as quirky and uncliched. C+
