Spike’s Joint: Director Spike Lee is planning to open his own advertising agency in a joint venture with BBDO Worldwide. ”You can only do a film a year, so you do ads in between,” says Lee, who has directed TV commercials for AT&T and Nike. ”I’m gonna oversee the agency. That doesn’t mean I’ll be directing every commercial. I want to go off and make a film without things falling ! apart.” Lee stresses his Brooklyn-based shop will be multicultural. ”We’re not going to set ourselves up just to go after African-American accounts,” he says. ”We don’t want to be pigeonholed.”
