We gave it a B+

Retro hillbilly Marty Brown takes fewer chances on his third album, Cryin’, Lovin’, Leavin’. With no dreary Appalachian death ballads this time, he delivers a more cohesive package of songs built around the ’50s spirit of Hank Williams and the Everly Brothers. Brown really hits stride with the chilling Hank-on-the-Cross moan of ”Why Do You Crucify Me,” a hymn for wounded lovers that could pass for a newly discovered acetate from Williams’ dusty attic.
