White Mile

Starring: Alan Alda, Peter Gallagher; Director: Robert Butler; MPAA Rating: R

You think your boss is tough? Meet Dan Cutler, played by Alda in a manner quite unlike his characteristically sweet, sensitive on-screen self. As a maniacal ad exec, he’s the corporate world’s answer to a drill sergeant, goading his colleagues and clients into a male-bonding rafting trip that turns turbulent, then tragic. How could it not, when he leads his posse of out-of-shape, middle-aged men down icy, expert-level rapids with neither training nor wet suits? After five of them end up in body bags, White Mile shifts course from action-adventure to courtroom drama to melodrama, pitting one man (Gallagher) against a corporation. It tries to cover a bit too much territory, but does so with swift, strong strokes. B
