On behalf of her son, Jack Byrne, 5, actress Ellen Barkin, 41, filed suit against American Airlines on May 16 in Los Angeles. Byrne (whose father is actor Gabriel Byrne, 45), was with Barkin on a Feb. 21 flight from New York to L.A. when, according to the suit, an attendant dropped hot tea on him and wasn’t sure how to give medical assistance. ”As a result of defendants’ intentional, reckless, and negligent conduct, [Byrne] suffered second- and third-degree burns on his body that left permanent scarring,” says the suit. ”[Byrne] refuses to board an airplane out of fear that he will be subjected to further injury.” The airline, says an American spokeswoman, is investigating the charges.
Eagle Don Henley, 47, and model Sharon Summerall, 32, tied the knot in PC fashion on May 20 in Malibu, Calif. The invitations were printed on recycled paper, and disposable items used at the nuptials were recycled. Among those who serenaded the newlyweds were the Chieftains, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, and Tony Bennett. ”It was a real kick to perform at such a magnificent event,” says Bennett, who, keeping with the spirit of the day, asked Henley to donate his $75,000 fee to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Ballet star-turned-actor Alexander Godunov, 45, of heart failure brought on by acute alcoholism, on May 18 at his West Hollywood home. Godunov had been undergoing treatment for alcohol abuse for two years. In 1979 he became the first Bolshoi Ballet dancer to defect to the West, joining the American Ballet Theatre and then moving into movies, including 1985’s Witness and 1988’s Die Hard. Earlier this year, while making the upcoming The Zone, in Budapest, Godunov returned home to visit his family in Riga, Latvia, for the first time since defecting. ”He was both very simple and extremely complicated…with an emotional Russian nature,” says actress Jacqueline Bisset, a former girlfriend…. Actor Elisha Cook Jr., 88, of stroke-related complications, on May 18 in Big Pine, Calif. Cook appeared in more than 100 movies, including Shane, Rosemary’s Baby, and, most memorably, as Sydney Greenstreet’s bug-eyed bodyguard in The Maltese Falcon.
