Italian horror director Mario Bava has a deserved cult following based primarily on one great film — Black Sunday, a gothic masterpiece with the look of a Universal classic of the ’30s. But the movies making their wide-screen video debuts in this double-feature set hardly enhance his reputation — in fact, both are examples of standard ’70s European schlockola. Lisa and the Devil, an incoherent evil-wax-museum piece, is partly redeemed by Savalas’ performance as — literally — a Kojak from hell, and Sommer completists will thrill to her sepulchral eye makeup in the otherwise low-rent ghost story Baron Blood.
