Pavarotti: My World Luciano Pavarotti with William Wright (Crown, $25) Luciano Pavarotti’s recent failure to hit his trademark high Cs at the Met was just the latest in a series of sensationalized setbacks (usually followed by sensationalized comebacks) that have characterized his career during the past decade. You might expect such struggles and triumphs to make for good reading, but this book suffers from the same blandness that marred its predecessor, Pavarotti: My Own Story (also written with William Wright). To be sure, there are some mildly engrossing passages — such as the one in which Pavarotti recounts his famous 1991 Hyde Park concert (where rain drenched thousands of admirers, including the Prince and Princess of Wales) — but they hardly relieve the monotony of the book as a whole.
