The Individualist Popster Todd Rundgren has seen fit to restyle himself as TR-i (”i” as in ”interactive”—I guess needs company) and come out with an enhanced-CD follow-up to 1993’s inscrutable No World Order. Besides 10 songs you can listen to on your audio-CD player, the disc contains lyrics, psychedelic screen shows, and some unlistenable concert footage of the artist rapping.
The new songs aren’t a match for Rundgren’s glorious early-’70s heyday, but there’s a very funny screen show for ”Cast the First Stone,” an agitprop Doom that lets you throw rocks at such lefty bogeymen as Pat Buchanan and Rush Limbaugh. All in all, not bad—but, Todd, we gotta get you a human. C+
