Magic in the Water

Genre: Sci-fi and Fantasy; Starring: Mark Harmon, Sarah Wayne; Director: Rick Stevenson; Author: Rick Stevenson; Runtime (in minutes): 98; MPAA Rating: PG

There’s precious little magic in this waterlogged kid flick about a lonely girl (Wayne) who befriends the monster in the local lake. A benignly fake-looking Loch Ness type, Orky doesn’t actually surface until the end of the movie, which gives the scriptwriters too much time to toss in stillborn plot developments involving grown-up romance, Native American mysticism, and crimes against the environment. Wondering just how dull Magic in the Water can get may keep parents interested. Kids, however, should be sound asleep within an hour.
