Leave it to the ever-ambitious Billy Corgan to tack six new songs onto the CD single ”Zero.” This roof-raising postscript to The Smashing Pumpkins’ latest album emphasizes their feverish, nerd-gone-haywire electric side, and at least two of its songs — the Gen-X anthem ”Mouths of Babes” and the breezy anti-love song ”Pennies” — are must-owns. On the other hand, ”Pastichio Medley,” a sonic collage of song fragments that drags on for 23 minutes, may leave you daydreaming about smashing Corgan’s head. B+
