We gave it a D

This slow-moving Showtime production about Feds chasing bootleggers in 1950s Tennessee is apparently aimed at antique-car buffs. But even they won’t get a buzz from it; in fact, they’ll probably be fuming when some of the gas-guzzlers crash and burn. Despite Moonshine Highway‘s occasional car wreck, there’s much more talk than action, and stuntman-turned-auteur Andy Armstrong’s hillbilly lines are just as hokey as his direction. Although Randy Quaid gives a decent enough performance as a corrupt small-town sheriff, Kyle MacLachlan just poses his way through the role of a smooth bootlegger in assorted tank tops and retro ensembles.
