Ryan Hedgecock was an equal with Maria McKee in Lone Justice — till they got signed, and ne’er was he heard from again. Now his lead vocals finally show up on record alongside those of new pardner Amy Allison (Mose’s daughter!) in a duet setup that leans toward country’s cheerfully gothic side; Parlor James’ lovely six-song debut Dreadful Sorry has just the right mix of wooziness and spookiness. Less interesting, but still strong in the writing, is a new collection, The Maudlin Years reprising Allison’s earlier life as a straight-ahead honky-tonk angel. Dreadful: B+ Maudlin: B-
