The star-studded show marking the opening last fall of Cleveland’s newest landmark was supposed to be a ”celebration” of rock, but the assembled legends give us little to cheer about on The Concert for the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame, 28 cuts documenting the ”highlights” of the event. While the likes of Johnny Cash, Al Green, and John Fogerty struggle valiantly to maintain the glorious legacy, their best efforts are overwhelmed by the symptoms of the genre’s aging, evident in James Brown’s failing voice, Lou Reed’s dulled cutting edge, and Bob Dylan’s stale performance.
