The purpose of the poorly designed CD-ROM Under the Covers remains elusive, but it seems to have something to do with photographer Henry Diltz and graphic designer Gary Burden, who collaborated on record jackets for such late-’60s/early-’70s California bands as Poco (Poco), The Doors (Morrison Hotel), and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Deja Vu). Although it does provide behind-the-scenes looks at some of the cover shoots, most of the work showcased on this disc (85 album covers in all) is unremarkable and monochromatic, and the text is not particularly illuminating. Add to that a multimedia format as technically buggy as it is oblique, and you have a formula for frustration. C-
