Palladino breaks her subject down into decade-long chunks, giving us a panoramic outline of the country’s youth. Her eclectic use of primary sources (from Seventeen cosmetics ads to civil rights treatises) makes this an absorbing document. Though it doesn’t neglect ”fads and fun,” it’s hardly greasy kid stuff.
