Imagine Sartre and Helmut Newton joining forces to make a lesbian-buddy serial-killer road film chockful of postmodern malaise. This bleak British import is singularly spectacular for carving a new niche in the cinematic pantheon of female loonies, largely thanks to Plummer’s razor-edged performance as Eunice, a murderous, boot-stomping, psycho punk bitch. There’s a fetishistic undertone to the movie’s brutality, but then, guys who make (albeit arty) Sappho-slasher flicks make me wonder. Not a first-date rental. C+
