How ironic is it that a middle-class white cat fronted the hottest interracial blues band of the ’60s/early ’70s? That’s one to ponder while spinning this welcome two-disc retrospective An Anthology: The Elektra Years, which eloquently attests to the PBBB’s formidable mastery of da blues, as well as its ability to stretch the genre’s ostensible limitations to the snapping point (check out the dizzying 13-minute instrumental “East West”). Just one quibble: Where’s the hilarious declaration of inebriation, “Drunk Again”? A
