Lots of people think they can come up with the sort of songs that would have fit comfortably between the Kinks and Buffalo Springfield on circa-’66 AM radio, but head Giant Ward Dotson actually delivers the goods. On Every Other Day at a Time, the Giants’ fourth effort, Dotson & Co. offer 14 freshly minted classics that respect tradition without being enslaved by it. Something Special is a nifty companion piece, containing covers of some of the tunes (the Move’s ”Fire Brigade,” Jeff Beck’s ”Tallyman”) that feed Dotson’s muse.
