Caught in the Light

Genre: Fiction; Author: Robert Goddard

On assignment in Vienna, photographer Ian Jarrett meets a mysterious woman named Marian Esguard; after a brief affair they make a pact to dissolve their marriages and reunite in England. Of course she stands him up, and of course her name isn’t Marian Esguard. This is the only predictable feint in a thriller that involves more twists and kicks than a Tae Bo workout. Obsessed with finding the woman, Jarrett loses his family and his career, becomes implicated in a murder, then stumbles into a cutthroat search for valuable negatives that predate the 1830s invention of modern photography. After a complex setup, Robert Goddard’s expertly orchestrated 11th novel Caught in the Light (following Beyond Recall) makes even the smallest detail count as it builds to its unpredictable finale. A-
