We gave it a B+

Wherever professor of forensic anthropology Tempe Brennan goes, horribly mutilated dead bodies turn up. When she visits Quebec to check out the remains of a nun who may be canonized — boom! A quintuple homicide, complete with charred, dismembered bodies. She goes back home to North Carolina — boom! Two tortured corpses surface on an animal preserve. The murders seem too far apart to be related, but this is a thriller, and you know what that means: There’s no such thing as coincidence. Though the reader solves the mystery in Death du Jour before Brennan, the writing is snappy, and the forensic detail gruesome — and riveting — so it’s still fun to go along for the ride. B+
