I Feel Like Singing Today

Genre: Country; Lead Performers: Jim Lauderdale, Ralph Stanley; Producer (group): Rebel

Lauderdale’s a subdued performer who, despite his superb taste, can approach blandness. Stanley, on the other hand, is a force of nature, bluegrass’ greatest vocalist, and on a good half-dozen tracks he forces Lauderdale to shed his reserve and wail. Two Lauderdale-penned gospel songs, ”Like Him” and ”Another Sinner’s Prayer,” are worth the album’s price; singing as if for his life, Lauderdale matches Stanley in soulfulness — and that’s saying something.
