The couple’s tabloid-worthy relationship began last year after the two met in a New York City gym, just months after Sklar had married Broadway producer Eric Nederlander. A date has yet to be set…. Actor Ben Stiller (There’s Something About Mary), 33, and actress Christine Taylor (The Brady Bunch Movie), 28, are engaged. The couple met in April when they worked together on a TV pilot Stiller was developing for Fox. No date was announced.
EXPECTING Actress Vanessa Williams (Light It Up), 36, and L.A. Laker hubby Rick Fox, 30, are expecting a baby in the spring. It will be the couple’s first child. She has three children from a previous marriage, and he has one child from a former relationship.
ARRESTED Erstwhile NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman, 38, and actress Carmen Electra, 27, on misdemeanor battery charges, Nov. 5, in Miami. The on-again-off-again couple was arrested for allegedly fighting in a South Beach hotel room. According to the police report, Rodman became agitated after seeing an MTV video starring Electra’s ex-boyfriend (reportedly Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst) and yelled, ”You f – -ing whore.” Electra’s publicist has no comment. ”I love Carmen and would never hurt her,” said Rodman. ”We are not violent people who fight all the time.”
FILED Actress Jena Malone (Stepmom), 14, filed a breach-of-contract complaint against her mother, Deborah Malone, Nov. 5, in L.A. According to court papers, the teen star accuses her mom of ”squander[ing] Jena’s money through excessive spending and mismanagment.” The actress is seeking more than $80,000 in damages. Says the younger Malone’s lawyer: ”Our concern is that when Jena turns 18, she won’t have any money.” The elder Malone couldn’t be reached for comment…. Actor Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon 4), 52, filed a racial-bias complaint with New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission after five unoccupied cabs passed him as he tried to hail a taxi in Harlem last month. ”Mr. Glover’s complaint can be used to improve our methods,” responded Taxi and Limousine Commission chairperson Diane McGrath-McKechnie.
DEATHS Veteran theater and film actor Ian Bannen, 71, in a car crash, Nov. 3, near Loch Ness in his native Scotland. Bannen, widely acclaimed for his role in 1998’s Waking Ned Devine, was in the area filming his latest movie (tentatively titled Strictly Sinatra). Nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 1965’s The Flight of the Phoenix, Bannen appeared in such films as Braveheart and Gorky Park…. Crime novelist George V. Higgins, 59, of natural causes, at his Milton, Mass., home, Nov. 6. Best known for his debut tale Friends of Eddie Coyle, which was made into a 1973 movie starring Robert Mitchum, Higgins has a novel, At End of Day, due in May.
