Projections 10: Hollywood Film-makers on Film-making, a series of self-congratulatory conversations between Leaving Las Vegas director Mike Figgis and assorted actors, directors, producers, and one critic pretends to probe the old problem of what’s wrong with Hollywood. Figgis’ righteous line of questioning — about the moral responsibility of film and the cultural devaluation of literature — verges on the sophomoric. While quirky interviewees like Rosanna Arquette (”You can get me cheap now”) and Paul Mazursky (who likens studio execs to clones) are amusingly frank, major players like Mel Gibson, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Jodie Foster (”Hollywood really wants to do better”) indulge Figgis without relinquishing their A-list guardedness.
