The rodent, the myth, the legend. Hampton the Hampster’s helium-voiced yodel (www.hampsterdance2.com) has been downloaded more than 60 million times and featured on an EarthLink commercial, but now he’s really groovin’. The catchy ditty (”di da dee da dee dee do do…”) has been laid over a pounding mix in ”The Hampsterdance Song.” Could it be this summer’s novelty hit? ”It’s fun to make fun of and it’s fun to play,” says Mike Opelka of New York’s WKTU. There’s even talk of a TV series in which Hampton circles the globe on a flying surfboard. According to Jeff Lane of Big Fun Media, which handles the website, ”At the end of the day, things work out, and everybody does the Hampsterdance.” Sounds good — but please, no Pikachu cameos.
