Heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio, 25, is in negotiations to play ’60s master of disguise Frank Abagnale Jr., a forger who by 18 became the youngest person ever on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. He aims to begin shooting Catch Me if You Can next spring.

HIRED On July 31, Fox named veteran execs James Gianopulos, 48, and Tom Rothman, 45, to serve jointly as chairmen of the studio. They replace Bill Mechanic, 50, who left in June after such box office letdowns as Anna and the King and Titan A.E.

SUSPENDED The Real World ain’t all cushy pads in New Orleans, babe. On July 28, Brigham Young University confirmed that recent Worlder Julie Stoffer, 20, was suspended for breaking the Mormon school’s Honor Code (which prohibits single students from cohabiting, as Stoffer did during the five-month shoot). The junior said she is looking for another college to attend.

RECOVERING Actor and NRA president Charlton Heston, 76, entered a Utah rehab center in May for three weeks, his publicist announced July 31. Heston felt his social drinking was getting excessive, she says, adding that the stint ”nipped the problem in the bud.” … Beastie Boy Michael Diamond, 33, had some ill communication with the pavement when his bicycle hit a Manhattan pothole July 23. He’s due to have surgery Aug. 2 for a dislocated right shoulder, delaying the Boys’ tour with Rage Against the Machine … Fear and loathing can be dangerous. Deborah Fuller, 58, was accidentally wounded when her boss, gonzo writer Hunter S. Thompson, 63, discharged a shotgun on his Aspen, Colo., property to chase off a bear. She was treated and released from a local hospital July 27. His agent was unavailable.

ARRESTS Former Jerry Springer Show guest Nancy Campbell-Panitz, 52, was found beaten to death in her Sarasota, Fla., home July 24 — hours after the episode featuring her twisted love story aired. On July 27, her ex-husband, Ralf Panitz, 41, was charged with murder and held without bail. On the show, Panitz claimed she had been harassing him, but admitted to sleeping with her the night before the May taping. Panitz couldn’t be reached for comment.
