28 Days

Genre: Drama; Starring: Sandra Bullock, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Buscemi; Director: Betty Thomas; Author: Susannah Grant; Runtime (in minutes): 103; MPAA Rating: PG-13; Distributor: Columbia Pictures

I’ll admit it: I watched the rehab dramedy 28 Days drinking a beer … but really, that only served to underscore the film’s fundamental weakness. In its defense, after wild-girl Gwen (Bullock) is sentenced to a 12-stepper, we’re never mired in predictable melodrama. But thanks to pat characters (even jonesing, Sandy looks fab-u-lous) and tepid storytelling, the flick never connects. I should have felt something while I drank that booze, dammit. I didn’t. And I don’t have a problem. C
