THE MOTHER 'CODE'

A crafty espionage thriller has infiltrated the fiction list. Ken Follett’s Code to Zero (410,000 copies in print) debuts at No. 6, adding a 12th best-seller to his stocked bag of spy tricks. Within days of finishing the manuscript, the wily London-based author sold movie rights to Columbia Pictures in a seven-figure deal. Also breathing fresh life into the chart is Jonathan Kellerman’s Dr. Death (445,000 copies in print), perched ominously at No. 9. The newcomers add serious macho oomph to an already brawny list. With Dean Koontz lurking around the corner, it’s beginning to look a lot like His-mas.
