The title’s too broad: These are screen tests from just one Hollywood studio, Twentieth Century Fox. And neither volume is really new, because the programs were produced for American Movie Classics. But the DVD format lets you jump more easily to the best snapshots: a charmingly arrogant Dustin Hoffman in a 1966 ”personality test”; Judy Garland on toothpick legs in wardrobe for Valley of the Dolls; and Mia Farrow flitting about in a purple dress — and failing to get the role of the eldest Von Trapp kid in The Sound of Music.
