THE CHARTS

BIG ‘BROTHER’

Brandy, you’re a fine girl, but you’re not quite as heavy as O Brother. The Grammy-winning soundtrack to the Coen brothers’ stix pic finally topped the Billboard chart 15 months after its release, selling 159,000 for the week as it headed for them thar quintuple-platinum hills–a happy fate even the movie’s oracle couldn’t have predicted. Brandy’s Full Moon, pregnant with chart-topping potential, marked the spot at No. 2 after selling 155,000. With no other major debuts, chart action was mostly limited to minor shifting, as albums that enjoyed a Grammy boost last week retreated toward pre-telecast levels; even the victorious Brother was down from the previous frame’s 209,000.
