A still-forceful Attack of the Clones helped the holiday weekend rack up a record $200 million–up 7.5 percent from last year. Dropping 41 percent from its opening weekend, Clones declined almost twice as much as its predecessor, The Phantom Menace, which fell a mere 21 percent in week two (earning more money in its second week on fewer screens than Clones). Among rookies, the big winner was Chris Nolan’s Insomnia: Its $26.1 million already surpasses the director’s total haul for Memento and also marks a personal best for its star Al Pacino.
