She can control the weather. She can take on James Bond. She can cry oceans of tears. Now, Halle Berry is poised to apply her formidable gifts to ”The Guide,” a thriller she’s negotiating to star in as her next movie, according to published reports.
Berry would play Jane Whitefield, the heroine of five novels by Thomas Perry. (”The Guide” is based on Perry’s novel ”Shadow Woman.”) Whitefield is a woman of Seneca Indian ancestry who uses a combination of Native American lore and up-to-the-minute computer talents to help erase the identities of people in trouble. (Think of her as a one-woman witness protection program.)
The Oscar-winning actress is certainly Berry busy these days. Since her historic ”Monster’s Ball” win in March, she’s wrapped the James Bond film ”Die Another Day” (due on screen in November), reprised her role as weather-commanding superheroine Storm in the ”X-Men” sequel (currently in production for a summer 2003 release), and signed to star in a comedy about an Afro-centric woman who decides to stop straightening her hair, called ”Nappily Ever After.”
