Better-known Marsalis brothers (trumpeter Wynton and saxophonist Branford), lesser-known ones (drummer Jason and trombonist Delfeayo), and their dad, pianist Ellis, together on CD for the first time. Even Harry Connick Jr., one of Ellis’ former students, sits in. It’s a celebration of Marsalis family tradition and mainstream jazz convention. Ellis’ compositions are the strongest cuts, Wynton and Branford trade fours with style on Branford’s ”Cain and Abel,” and Jason, the youngest member, nearly steals the show.
