This weekend’s box office was a case of the blind leading the blond. Ben Affleck’s sightless superhero in ”Daredevil” raked in an estimated $43.5 million, taking first place with the second-best February opening ever (after ”Hannibal”’s $58 million two years ago) and the best President’s Day weekend opening ever (beating the $20.3 million for last year’s ”John Q”). Last week’s top movie, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s romantic comedy ”How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” has apparently figured out how to earn $47.7 million in 10 days, finishing a strong second with $19 million, down just 20 percent from its opening last weekend.
”Chicago,” which expanded to more theaters this weekend following its 13 Oscar nominations announced last Tuesday, held at No. 3, earning $12.6 million. The weekend’s other new release, Disney’s animated ”Jungle Book 2,” opened in fourth place with $11.9 million. ”Shanghai Knights” rounded out the top five, taking in $11.4 million.
