The Stranglers were contradictory: a surly bunch of U.K. pub-rockers who hitched a ride on punk but whose coups were a Summer of Love harpsichord ballad (”Golden Brown”) and a Bacharach/David cover (”Walk On By”). Those songs are here, as are the Gothy Tori Amos fave ”Strange Little Girl” and the titular tribute to seashore horniness. In sum, it’s about 25 percent top-shelf popcraft, and the rest won’t hurt anyone, nom de guerre notwithstanding.
