On assignment in Iraq for The Atlantic Monthly (where he’d been editor in chief from 1999 to 2002), Kelly also wrote a column for The Washington Post. His book Martyrs’ Day was based on his coverage of the previous Gulf War.
Things are brightening up for the Princess of Darkness: Sharon Osbourne, 50, is free of cancer (she was diagnosed with colon cancer last year) after months of treatment, according to an announcement by hubby Ozzy, 54…. Rosie O’Donnell’s partner and fellow mommy to their four children has legally changed her name to Kelli O’Donnell (nee Carpenter). ”We made a family decision that we all wanted to have one name,” says Rosie. Also this week, she threatened to sue the National Enquirer unless the tabloid retracted a story saying the pair are on the outs. ”In one year [since my] coming out, they printed that we had broken up three times,” she says. The Enquirer could not be reached for comment.
Actor Jason Mewes, 28, best known as Jay to director Kevin Smith’s Silent Bob in Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, was reportedly ordered April 1 to check into a drug rehab center. After having repeatedly missed court appearances related to a 1999 heroin conviction, Mewes finally showed with a film crew for a documentary about his rehabilitation…. Designer Calvin Klein, 60, is seeking help for substance abuse. ”I’m again getting the treatment I need to resume a healthy and productive lifestyle,” said Klein, who has previously been in rehab…. Comedian Rodney Dangerfield, 81, underwent brain surgery in Los Angeles April 8. He is expected to make a complete recovery.
In a rare show of unified litigation, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, and Bruce Willis have filed a joint lawsuit against Fry’s Electronics, claiming the retail chain used their likenesses in ads without their permission. The suit asks for $10 million in damages for each of the actors. Fry’s Electronics could not be reached for comment.
