This fall, ”Gilmore Girls”’ Rory is going off to Yale, and her pal Jess is going… where? ”Gilmore” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino had been preparing a spinoff for Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) that would send him off to Venice, Calif., to live with his estranged dad (Rob Estes). The show had even been set up with an episode this spring marking Jess’ departure from Connecticut. But now, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the WB and producer Warner Bros. Television have scrapped the prospective mid-season show, citing costs. It’s not clear yet whether that means Jess will be coming back to ”Gilmore.”
”After thorough analysis, we have determined that the costs to produce an ambitious series, filmed totally on location in Venice, Calif., were simply prohibitive,” WB entertainment chief Jordan Levin and WBTV president Peter Roth said in a joint statement. Sherman-Palladino issued her own statement, saying, ”I should have listened to what my mother told me when I was a little girl: ‘If you set a show in Venice, no one’s gonna pay for it.”’ Well, duh, whose mother hasn’t said that?
