Two of this summer’s new reality series, NBC’s ”For Love or Money” and UPN’s ”America’s Top Model,” are such hits that their networks have already ordered second seasons. In fact, the next ”Love or Money” season starts July 14, one week after the current season ends. This time, NBC says, the sexes will be switched, with a bachelorette whittling down a roster of golddigging guys, initially unaware that the suitor she picks could win $1 million if he rejects her. The network promises an additional twist, one that gives the woman ”her own motivation to earn the gentleman’s admiration.”
NBC must have guessed long ago that ”Love or Money” would be a hit (it averages about 9.2 million viewers per episode). After all, Season 2 would have had to go into production before the bachelorette could watch the current show and learn its actual rules.
”Top Model” averages less than half the viewership of ”Love or Money,” but it’s scored big numbers by UPN standards, having boosted the audience in its Tuesday timeslot by 62 percent (136 percent among women ages 18 to 34). Tyra Banks will return as host for 10 more episodes, featuring a dozen new competitors for such prizes as a modeling contract with Revlon and a photo spread in Marie Claire.
