Madonna is getting ready to make a movie about a topic she knows well, the backstage world of pop stardom. (Don’t worry, she won’t be in front of the camera this time.) According to the Hollywood Reporter, she’s producing ”She Rocks,” a romantic comedy to be written and directed by Amie Steir and starring Amanda Peet. The ”Whole Nine Yards” star would play an ambitious music journalist who lands a career-making interview with a rock star. Think ”Working Girl” meets ”Almost Famous.”
The movie would mark Steir’s feature debut but her third movie with Peet, who starred in the director’s HBO shorts ”Zoe Loses It” and ”Date Squad.” Caresse Henry, a producer at Madonna’s Maverick Films, told the Reporter, ”Madonna, who not only loved the script but is also very fond of both Amie and Amanda’s work, has taken closely to this project that is set in the music industry, a world all too familiar to her.”
Peet also appears opposite Jack Nicholson and Keanu Reeves in Nancy Meyers’ currently shooting romantic comedy, which is also set partly in the music world. And she plays a woman interested in a different kind of hit in the sequel ”The Whole Ten Yards,” in which she reprises her role as an aspiring contract killer. Both movies are due out by the end of the year. ”She Rocks” is expected to shoot this fall.
